This class takes you through posture, core strength and natural weight bearing arm conditioning through to a fast footed fun flamenco fiesta!
Have a go at dancing flamenco! This class will take you through the posture, arm and hand work typical of Spanish dance. You will learn the basics and tie movements together into a short dance sequence. Sevillanas is the lively dance of Feria or the Spanish fare. We will have a go at dancing the first verse of this fun dance in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Everyone welcome. You do not need to buy anything for this course. Comfy clothes and shoes are fine. Just bring a bottle of water

Meet Your Tutor
Sam Quy (Duet) Sam Quy is an award-winning dance tutor, freelance dance artist, choreographer and London boat woman. Sam is the flamenco dancer on Strictly Come Dancing and has performed over the past decade in productions at London’s Royal Opera House. Sam creates sensitive musical dance works in response to spontaneous inspirations or concerns. She loves to grow seemingly organic performances out of weird and wonderful contexts/spaces and engage dancers of different ages and abilities. Sam is author of Reading Dance in the Musical, researched for Flamenco International magazine and was editor of Flamenco News.
Create flamenco posture, arms, hands and clapping to accompany the dance as well as some of the basic footwork of the Sevillana dance.
Practice your flamenco dance technique and learn the paso de Sevillanas (Sevillanas step)
Create your flamenco body work, practice your paso de Sevillanas and the pasada (passing) step.
Learn to gradually coordinate your arms and hand work with paso de Sevillanas (Sevillanas step), pasada and paraditas (little stops)
Consolidate everything so far and add a turning step to complete the short dance sequence
We will dance all steps learned throughout the course and dance together consolidating all learning throughout the course
