In the spotlight this month is health and fitness specialist Edgaras (Ed). A #YMCAclubExpert who has been part of the YMCA Club team for the last four years.
After a decade as a professional athlete, Ed has never stopped challenging himself and always sets new fitness objectives to achieve
We caught up with him to find out more.
What are your three tips to help keep health and fitness at the top of our priority list?
- Believe in your end goal
- Be disciplined and organised
- And have fun
What is your regular fitness routine?
My fitness routines change depending on what I am looking to achieve, however I always include at least 10 minutes of meditation on a daily basis.
Last year I trained for an Ironman triathlon which included lots of swimming, cycling and running. This year I am competing in a fitness competition and am training more intensively with weights.
What are your proudest achievements, fitness or otherwise?
I’m very proud to be a #YMCAclubExpert. Getting to work with so many talented professionals around drives me to become better every day. YMCA Club is one of the most innovative and skilled places you can work, so definitely this is my number one.
What is your favourite phrases or quote?
Having no limitation as a limitation. If you always put a limit on everything you do, physical or otherwise, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.
Share one of your personal top secrets for keeping fit and healthy in mind, body and spirit?
I think there is no secret here.
Get some active time in nature, travel with friends and enjoy the moment. I truly believe this can change lives and make people fitter and healthier in mind, body and spirit.
People often over complicate things and think that to stay fit and healthy and needs lots of time, money and effort. It doesn’t!
How would you describe your teaching style and how do you help your members reach their goals?
I’m known as Mr. MOTIVAT-ED, so that’s exactly what I do - motivate my clients and members to achieve their best. When I teach classes, I like to share my positive energy, inspire the members to help them get to their goals. My personal training style is disciplined and sometimes challenging but I take the approach of ‘go hard or go home’ - client success is my priority.
What health and fitness app do you use to help achieve your goals?
Time to time I use My Fitness Pal to track my macros and daily calorie intakes.
What do you love about your job?
I love to work with people. Personal training is such a dynamic role. You meet so many different people and learn lots of different things. I love to share my passion and inspire others.
If you had another life, in another world, what would your dream job be?
We are always controlling our lives and making decisions which lead us to present moment. We have to do everything we can to find our dream job now. We have all tools and plenty of time to become what we want to be. Make every moment count and never lose sight of what you want. It worked for me.
What does a good day look like?
Today! Every day can be good or bad day. It’s up on us what we choose to make it.
What is important to you?
Be true to yourself. Never try to be fake and always remember what peace and quiet can be in the silence. The world is busy, noisy and chaotic so keeping peace within your own mind, body and spirit.
