Adrian sat down with Vitor Fernades, one of our #YMCAclubExperts to find out what keeps him motivated and how he helps members reach their goals.
What are your 3 tips to help us all to keep our health and fitness on top of our list in the countdown to Christmas?
- Stay focused with your training : getting distracted by the festive season is very tempting, make the most of it but make sure you find time for your training.
- Start planning your goals: set up a list of goals you want to achieve in the New Year, commit to it and make it happen.
- Festive food: It’s a joyful, sugary season! Have it, enjoy it but watch it, don’t let it take over you.
What is your regular fitness routine?
I train 5 days a week. I do a combination of Conditioning and HIIT workout and I also sometimes find time for a dance session.
What are your proudest achievements, fitness or otherwise?
Obtaining my Spin qualification. I always struggled with my love/hate relationship with cardio, but today it’s one of my favourite class to teach.

Share one of your personal top secrets for keeping fit and healthy in mind body and spirit?
Find something that’ll keep you motivated. Try new things, explore fitness and smile more.
How would you describe your teaching style and how do you help your members reach their goals?
Energetic, authentic and fun. I help members by motivating them with my challenging workouts and choosing a great playlist to keep them going. I teach Dance, Cycle, Sculpt, LBT and I cover a few other classes as well - whatever your goal may be just come and see me.
What health and fitness app do you use to help?
I use Fitbit to track my activity, Fitness Buddy to search exercises and My Macros to track my food intake.
What do you love about your job?
The opportunity to share my experience, to help change people’s perspective and to be surrounded by people that have the same passion as mine.
What has your job taught you about yourself?
That I am stronger and smarter than I think I am. Never underestimate yourself and always strive to do your best in any line of work. The results may surprise you.
If you had a another life, in another world, what would their dream job be?
A singer, super star, someone like Beyonce.
What does a good day look like?
Waking up early in the morning full of energy, no Tube delays coming into work, teaching classes to members give big smiles!
What is important to you?
My diligence, discipline, family and friends.
