Get on your bike!
Following the success of last year, the Tour de Y is back in London for 2014! This year’s cycling event takes place on Saturday 26 July and the money raised will allow Central YMCA to continue changing lives and supporting projects in our community from disability sport to healthy living for deprived children.
Taking part: On the road and in the Club
We understand that everyone would love to take part but not all of you will be the next Bradley Wiggins or Laura Trott. That’s why we’ve put together three routes of differing lengths – each taking in some of London’s most iconic parks.
If you who would like to join in and fundraise, but don’t want to cycle on the road, there will also be a few options in the Club. Full details are available here.
Our road cycling routes are:
13km beginner family-friendly ride through Hyde Park - view route
Our shortest route travels the safest roads possible to Hyde Park and back and is a simple and accessible trip perfect for families and beginners. Cycle independently or join a group led by one of our experienced cyclists which will set off from Bedford Square at 11am.
46km intermediate ride through South London and Greenwich - view route
Push yourself a little further with our longer 46km route which takes in the sights of South London, Greenwich then along to the Herne Hill Velodrome before re-joining the route of the advanced ride and heading back to Bedford Square.
100km advanced ride through South London and the beautiful Kent Valley - view route
For the serious cyclists amongst you, take on the challenge of our 100km advanced ride. Bid farewell to London as this route takes you into the home county of Kent visiting some beautiful villages such as Shoreham and Ottford. With a maximum elevation of 216m, this route has plenty of flats where you can reach top speed.
All routes will start and finish at Bedford Square and will be independent rides. To ensure a smooth journey, we will provide you with GPS coordinates, detailed directions and will have signage along the route.
It promises to be a great event so register today for £10 per person (free for under 16s) and you will receive free membership to YMCA Club for the week prior to the event (19-26 July 2014).
Although fundraising is not compulsory, if all riders raised just £50 in sponsorship, it would make a huge difference to those supported by Central YMCA or your chosen charity.
